Terms of service
These terms are an agreement between you and ThreatMap (“we”, “us”) about your use of the ThreatMap app and this website (together, “ThreatMap”). By using ThreatMap you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

What ThreatMap is
ThreatMap shows information that US state sex offender registries make public, on a map, so people can make informed decisions about their own and their families' safety. It covers the 50 US states.
ThreatMap is not a government service, isn't affiliated with any state registry or law enforcement agency, and is not an emergency service. If you're in danger, call 911.
Registry data can be wrong
We don't create or edit registry records, and we make no promise that any record is accurate, complete or current, or that every registered person near a location is shown.
Acceptable use
You must be at least 18 to use ThreatMap. You agree not to:
- use any information from ThreatMap to threaten, harass, intimidate, stalk, or commit any crime against anyone, including the people listed or their families, neighbors or employers. Many states make misuse of registry information a crime;
- use ThreatMap to make decisions about anyone's eligibility for employment, housing, credit, insurance or any other purpose covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. ThreatMap is not a consumer reporting agency and doesn't provide consumer reports;
- copy, scrape, collect in bulk, resell or republish data from ThreatMap, or use it to build another product or database;
- reverse engineer, interfere with or try to get around ThreatMap's security, subscription checks or usage limits, or access it by automated means;
- use ThreatMap in any way that breaks the law.
We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these rules.
Subscriptions
- Viewing offenders requires a paid subscription, bought through the Apple App Store. Prices and billing periods are shown in the app before you buy.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings. Deleting the app doesn't cancel it. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- Payments and refunds are handled by Apple under its terms. We can't issue refunds ourselves; you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Fair use. Searching an area nobody has looked at recently costs us money, so each subscription can search a limited number of new areas in a rolling 72-hour period. Areas you've already searched keep working, and the limit resets on its own. The limit is set well above normal personal use.
Links to other sites
ThreatMap links to official state registry pages and other third-party sites. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content or practices.
Our content
ThreatMap's software, design, name and logo belong to us and are protected by law. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under these terms and the App Store's Usage Rules. Map data is provided by Mapbox and OpenStreetMap contributors under their own terms.
Privacy
Our privacy policy explains what we collect and how we use it.
Disclaimers
THREATMAP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T PROMISE THAT THREATMAP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE, OR THAT IT WILL KEEP YOU OR ANYONE ELSE SAFE.
Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE WON'T BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THREATMAP OR ANY INFORMATION IN IT. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THREATMAP IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR $50 IF THAT IS MORE. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Indemnity
You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims, damages and costs (including reasonable lawyers' fees) that come from your misuse of ThreatMap or your breach of these terms.
Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for ThreatMap or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it, and isn't responsible for any claims relating to it, including product liability, legal compliance or intellectual property claims. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you aren't located in a country subject to a US government embargo and aren't on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
General
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
- We may change these terms. We'll update the date above, and tell you in the app about significant changes. Continuing to use ThreatMap after a change means you accept it.
- If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a part isn't a waiver of it.
- We may end or suspend ThreatMap or your access to it at any time.
